“Views from Home”. Well, my former home, that “Views from Home”. Well, my former home, that is. I created this from a photo taken in my back yard. Lots of digital alterations, added silk frames. I was inspired by the graceful curves of the ornamental grass. 29” x 31” link in profile #artquilt #artquilts #textileart

Dreaming in Color - 34” - 27”. The windows are Dreaming in Color - 34” - 27”. The windows are created with painted silk covered with dark vine designs. The darker colorful hand dyed fabric is a chiffon gifted to me by a friend. Other strips of fabric colors are incorporated to repeat the colors found in the chiffon.

I decided it would be fun to make an asymmetrical quilt mounted on another quilted background. The fabric used in the background is an African damask or bezin often made in Mali. I quilted it following the basic design in the damask. Considering the rich colorful hues in the rest of the work, the deep burgundy red of this African fabric played well with and calmed down the whole. #artquilt #textileart

Kelly Drive- 28” x22” - based on a photo taken Kelly Drive- 28” x22” - based on a photo taken by Rod on one of his early morning bike rides. I was intrigued by the contrast of the dark cold stone arches with the warm glow of the turning leaves. I also enjoyed trying to catch the play of light and shadows across the grass and roadway. #artquilt #textileart #philly #kellydrive #kellydrivephilly

See my process of creating the background, coaxing painted cheesecloth into tree shapes on a piece of Dura-lar. The elements are pinned on and will be stitched with monofilament thread next. The rest of the stonework and shadows will be created with paint and thread. So far so good but a long way to go yet. #artprocess #artinprogress #fiberart #artquilt #textileart
