The glowing windows in this art quilt remind me of dreaming in vivid color.
The windows are created with painted silk covered with dark vine designs. The darker colorful hand dyed fabric is a chiffon gifted to me by a friend. Other strips of fabric colors are incorporated to repeat the colors found in the chiffon.
I decided it would be fun to make an asymmetrical quilt mounted on another quilted background. The fabric used in the background is an African damask or bezin often made in Mali. I quilted it following the basic design in the damask. Considering the rich colorful hues in the rest of the work, the deep burgundy red of this African fabric played well with and calmed down the whole.
