I based this art quilt on a photo my husband took while biking on Kelly Drive in Philadelphia.
The arches provide a dark contrast of black and gray stone to the deep red and brilliant orange of the autumn leaves. Shadows create shades of dark and light across the grass and roadway. The bare branches cascading over the side of the bridge provide yet, another contrasting texture.
The leaves on the trees were created with painted cheese cloth. The streaks of weathered salt and scale on the stones is also created with textile paint.
The fabrics are hand dyed and commercial cottons and polyester thread is used for the quilting.
The work is finished with a facing and hanging sleeve. It measures 28″ x 22″.
