Description
An art quilt with global influence depicting, presumably, the goddess, Lakshmi.
This art quilt is created primarily with silk in hues of teal, blue violet, gray and some little pops of dark red. All colors are muted and lean heavily toward gray. The goddess is sitting on a lotus flower and from what I gather, she is Lakshmi from Hindu stories. She, goddess of fortune and wealth, is often represented with her husband, Vishnu, the god who maintains human life filled with justice and peace.
I photographed the sculpture, deleted the background and printed it onto sheer organza. I stitched the organza to a blue violet silk to help it blend with the rest of the work. The piece also incorporates some black vintage kimono fabric with mountain embroidery and some mono-printed silk/cotton blend.
